We buy the tickets, we get on the first bus then we get off to transfer to the next bus, and the transit officer wants to see the tickets. Of course, we pull out our tickets, and he tells us that we had forgotten to validate. He said, \u201cYou did not validate.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f This is all in Italian, by the way, and it was loud Italian. I said, \u201cOh, so sorry,\u201d and go to validate, to which he responds, \u201cNo, no, no, no, you can\u2019t validate it now. I must see your passports\u201d I say, \u201cNo, I\u2019m going to validate the ticket.\u201d He then says, \u201cI\u2019m going to write you a fine for $500 euro.\u201d Loud and emphatically I say \u201cI\u2019m sorry I didn\u2019t validate the ticket!\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f Now he\u2019s really making a scene. We get off the bus and there\u2019s a crowd forming, he\u2019s really fussing and I\u2019m really fussing back! Maggie\u2019s eyes look like they\u2019re going to pop out of her head. Meanwhile, I\u2019m looking around and asking, \u201cWhat am I supposed to do with this guy?\u201d Everyone is just shaking their heads saying, \u201cI don\u2019t know.\u201d Finally, I say, \u201cOkay, fine. Just take me to jail. I am not paying your fine. I\u2019m not giving you my passport, so, take me away.\u201d He fusses and is still ranting and raving in Italian. I grab Maggie by the wrist (I didn\u2019t even take her by the hand) and said, \u201cCome on Maggie, we\u2019re leaving.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f I started to walk away saying, \u201cNow honey do not turn around and look, just keep right on walking.\u201d We walk, walk, walk, walk, turn the corner, walk, walk, turn the corner, walk, walk. We stayed away for about 20 minutes, returned to the bus stop, boarded the next bus, validated our ticket, and went off to Fiesole. The whole time, Maggie was scared to death of what her grandmother was doing.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u27a1\ufe0f At the end of the day, I still had my passport. I did not pay the fine. Maggie and I went off to Fiesole, and we had a lovely time.
