It was St. Patrick that gave us the right to drink Guinness black or green on the anniversary of his death 17th of March\u00a0or better known as St. Patrick\u2019s Day \u00a0 .\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>St. Patrick was the most important person in Ireland in the 5th Century, and without St Patrick Ireland would not be the country that it is today. He\u00a0was born in the year 389, captured as a boy, and spent six years as a slave tending sheep on a lonely hillside in Ireland. Eventually he escaped slavery and traveled to Europe. There he became a priest. Ireland was always on his mind and those hills were never far away. The Pope selected Patrick to\u00a0travel to Ireland\u00a0where\u00a0he spent the next sixty years spreading the word of God all over the Island of Ireland. St. Patrick lived until the year 492 and was over one hundred years old when he died. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>St. Mary\u2019s Cathedral, in the heart of Killarney, is\u00a0the finest church in Ireland and proudly depicts the life of St. Patrick in a collection of stained glass windows. \u00a0The town of Killarney, nestled in the southwest, has the largest National Park in the country , and is the gateway to the Ring of Kerry. \u00a0 Killarney celebrates St. Patrick\u2019s Day with an afternoon parade in honor of the Patron Saint of Ireland, and quickly becomes a street party, alive with celebration.
